Illinois village opts for comprehensive workforce management suite
Rosemont Ill. is considered part of the greater Chicago metropolitan’s “Gold Corridor” for its economic importance. The village (population: 4,236) has selected the Kronos Workforce Central suite to manage its workforce of full- and part-time employees. The selection was announced in April, and the project is ongoing.
The village is shifting from its previous payroll solution to the new system to add more innovation in how it manages its complex workforce. The new system will align the village with its growth and its need for more accuracy in processes.
The new setup will help Rosemont standardize a variety of pay codes that track types of work, such as regular or overtime, as well as pay rules, which define pay periods and payroll policies. This will help Rosemont manage overtime accurately and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and union labor laws, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Rosemont tested the new system and found that it runs accurate ACA-related tracking reports in less time compared to other providers. Also, as Rosemont’s employees often work in multiple departments, juggling a variety of schedules, the new system can help track multiple jobs and overtime thresholds.
The new setup offer Rosemont flexibility by accommodating changes through its configurable interface within the system. This will enable the local government to quickly implement organizational decisions and changes as they arise. The system offers a single source for workforce management, and will integrate with Rosemont’s ERP system. The vendor also will help ensure that accurate time-worked data is entered into the ERP system.
Don Calmeyn, Rosemont’s director of finance, believes that the new system can handle the complexity of the village’s pay rules. “We have multiple thresholds of overtime, and most payroll vendors can’t even handle two overtime thresholds within one pay card. Additionally, Kronos accommodates changes in the system, so when we make a change required for business reasons, the system doesn’t crumble.”
“Advanced government workforce management approaches are essential, given the intense pressure on government entities, large or small, to preserve budget dollars and help ensure the continuity of services and programs,” says Rock Regan, director, public sector practice group at Kronos. “This is why governments need to completely automate and streamline workforce management processes, no matter how complex.”
