Town puts troops first
This is the second in a series of podcasts American City & County will produce leading up to the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
In June, Wichita Falls, Texas, began its "Troops First" initiative, asking residents to allow members of the military to go first in line for everything from movies to grocery shopping. Scheduled to continue through the 10-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and beyond, the program is meant to honor troops at Sheppard Air Force Base, located in the town.
Wichita Falls Mayor Glenn Barham talked to American City & County about the inspiration for the program and the importance of supporting troops during a time of war.
