A slap on the paw
A member of the Essex County (Mass.) Sheriff’s Department accidentally discharged a weapon earlier this month, but is being given some leeway. Ivan, a German Shepherd police dog, was called to the scene after three men suspected of firing a weapon fled and were seen by an officer burying an object in the snow.
Ivan was digging through the snowbank when he fired the gun, according to a New Hampshire Union Leader story. No one was injured. After recovering the weapon, an officer determined that it was stolen.
All three suspects were arrested and one was charged with discharging a firearm within 150 feet of a highway. The dog’s handler, Lt. John Pickles, won’t miss any time because of the incident, and Ivan isn’t expected to lose any of his chew toy compensation.
