Tiny town gets a tiny mayor

Who’s the boss? In Dorset, Minn., a 4 year old, apparently.

Robert “Bobby” Tufts, a local toddler, was elected mayor during the city’s annual Taste of Dorset festival, according to the Associated Press. And get this – it will be his second term.

“I’m the boss!” the pint-sized politico declared during an MSNBC interview. When asked what he would do to help Dorset, Tufts stuttered for a moment, and then remembered his talking points. “I… I’m going to make a new… promote local business,” he said, adding this may take the form of a new “ice cream shop.”

Unfortunately for Tufts, he may not have the power to facilitate that ice cream shop’s construction. With a population of 28, Dorset has no formal government. Anyone was allowed to vote in the election for a $1 donation that went to help fund the festival, the AP reports.

But Tufts isn’t entirely a figurehead. His mother told the AP her son’s agenda includes raising money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Red River Valley in Fargo, N.D., as well as constructing a new welcome sign for Dorset. Mayor Tufts already raised $750 from a walk during the summer, and he plans to organize a snowshoe scavenger hunt during the winter.  

He just needs to be sure to take a nap around 3 p.m., so he won’t get cranky.
