Hypocrisy, thy name is Congress
Representative Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas) was filmed last Wednesday chastising a park ranger for denying people access to the D.C. WWII memorial. Neugebauer told the worker she “should be ashamed” of herself for enforcing the shutdown that he voted for.
The video itself is about a minute long, but here is the highlight:
“How do you look at them and … deny them access?” asks Neugebauer of the Park Service employee.
“It’s difficult” she replies.
After a brief exchange, the congressman says, “The Park Service should be ashamed of themselves."
Mark Segraves, an NBC News reporter on the scene, says the crowd of onlookers “got involved,” pointing out the reason they were barred from entry was because of Congress’ failure to pass the spending bill. Neugebauer responds, saying that blame for the shutdown belongs to Majority Leader Harry Ried (D-Nev.).
“No, [the reason for the shutdown] is because the government won’t do its job and pass a budget,” an onlooker retorts.
The video ends with the Neugebauer walking away.
A baffled Elise Foley, one of the Huffington Post’s political correspondents, said, “He was doing that, you know, thinking it would be good messaging, but all it made him look like was kind of a jerk.”
