In Dog We Trust
While we’re sure members of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department love their dogs, we don’t think they actually had this in mind.
Earlier this month the Florida sheriff’s department purchased a new rug for its offices. Unfortunately, the $500 custom-made rug showed up with a typo. Instead of reading “In God We Trust,” the crest on the rug proclaimed the department’s proclivity for canines, CNN reports.
In dog we trust?
But, saying they won’t “sweep anything under the rug,” the department decided to put the rug up for auction, with the proceeds going to benefit Canine Estates, a local animal rescue.
It seems someone out there trusts in dogs a great deal; bids on the rug closed at $9,650. “I knew that the sheriff’s office paid $500 for it,” Jane Sidwell, founder of Canine Estates Inc., told Bay News 9. “So I thought well, that’s great. We’ll get $500. But we had no idea it would escalate into what it has.”
Sidwell told the news station the funds will go mainly toward vet bills. The misprinted rug’s manufacturer, American Floor Mats, said they would replace the rug free of charge, CNN reports.
