Californians are hoping that the El Niño weather pattern continues to churn out near-record precipitation. The hope is that California’s water reservoirs may start to recover from the drought that is now entering its fifth year.
Vast areas of California's Central Valley is sinking faster than in the past. The reason: massive amounts of groundwater have been pumped out of the ground during the historic drought. One sign of the water shortage: Gov. Jerry Brown has announced historic mandatory water restrictions on urban areas.
