The 25 U.S. cities where populations are declining most
About 14 percent of the U.S. population (or 40 million people) move at least once every year, according to financial news organization 24/7 Wall St. The reasons are many— better job opportunities, warmer climates and more affordable areas have been particularly prevalent trends over the past few decades. In this process however, some cities populations are dwindling, without the gains necessary to make up for the losses.
The news organization examined data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program and came up with the 50 American metropolitan areas from which the most people are moving away. We've included the top 25 here, along with relevant U.S. Census data. Is your city on the list?
