The former town engineer and deputy planning commissioner of Islip, N.Y., has pleaded guilty to charges related to an ongoing investigation into construction at the town’s airport that didn’t meet the state’s fire and safety codes. Steven Rizzo has agreed to testify against other officials accused of approving the questionable construction at MacArthur Airport, according to The New York Times. Rizzo’s lawyer says Rizzo was deceived by others into approving the construction of a restaurant at the airport that did not have a required fire-suppression system.
