The Hamilton County, Ohio, Department of Job and Family Services may have misspent $1 billion, but four different audits failed to reveal any problems. There were two standard state audits of the agency for 2002 and 2003 and two more by independent accountants for the same time period, but it wasn’t until a 2004 financial review that some hints of misspending surfaced, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Democrats are criticizing the state’s Republican-controlled government for not catching the misspending, while officials with the county’s DJFS claim they have spent their money properly.
