Maria Walls, an accomplished Beaufort County Treasurer, has successfully revitalized the office, driving exceptional performance and customer service. Under her leadership, innovative initiatives such as e-billing options and transparent collections data have garnered national and statewide recognition. However, Maria’s unwavering commitment extends beyond professional achievements. She courageously advocates for a safe and inclusive workplace, addressing the urgent need to address harassment and assault faced by women. Maria’s actions exemplify her dedication to creating positive change and fostering a higher standard for all in Beaufort County.
Whitney Miller, Director of Collections, Jackson County, Missouri
Whitney Miller has served as director of the Jackson County Collection Department since 2018. Under Miller’s leadership, the department accounts for approximately $905 million in tax revenue collections from the county’s 703,011 residents across more than 70 taxing jurisdictions. Prior to her appointment, Miller spent more than six years providing civil legal counsel for the County Counselor’s Office with a focus on employment and tax law. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Law, Miller is also a member of the Jackson County Pension Board and the Board of Directors for Wilderness Camping and Retreat Center.
