What to offer riders of the silver tsunami
Baby boomers are nearing retirement, which means local governments will have to prepare resources for a surge in the senior population. Preventive health care programs, such as “lifestyle” education, immunizations and screenings

Nutrition education and community-sponsored programs that deliver meals to seniors

Age-appropriate fitness programs and recreational facilities with walking trails and fitness equipment

Aids for older drivers, such as larger, easy-to-read road signs, grooved lane dividers and dedicated left-turn lanes

Special training for police, fire and emergency medical personnel to make sure they can find and assist seniors in their communities
