New plan revealed for 9/11 memorial
A redesign of the World Trade Center memorial in New York is expected to cost about $700 million, a decrease from the early May estimate of nearly $1 billion. The new plan, developed by the project’s construction executive Frank Sciame, would eliminate several underground galleries that were to display the names of the 2,979 victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 and Feb. 26, 1993 terrorist attacks, according to The New York Times. The names will instead be displayed around two voids that will mark the footprints of the twin towers that were destroyed in the Sept. 11 attack. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Gov. George Pataki endorsed the plan.
