An Incubator For Homeland Technology
The Chesapeake Innovation Center (CIC), headquartered in Annapolis, Md., near the hub of Homeland security activity, is 80 percent leased with early-stage business ventures offering Homeland security technology solutions.
A program of the Anne Arundel County, Md., Economic Development Corp., the CIC claims to be “the first incubator in the nation specializing in the development of Homeland security technology companies.
“This center represents our commitment to helping entrepreneurs achieve success,” says Janet S. Owens, an Anne Arundel County official. The CIC has established partnerships with federal agencies, universities and key corporations to facilitate entry of emerging companies into the Homeland security and information technology industries.
The client companies of the CIC include:
-
Global Wireless Network Inc., designer and manufacturer of wireless hardware devices related to communications interoperability.
-
ICUC, a communications services company that integrates telephone numbers with various Internet services.
-
Lighthouse Communications LLC, a location-based services and wireless communication company that delivers safety, security and information to the mobile environment.

The CIC Advisory Committee, a 21-member body comprised of business and government experts, reviews and advises nominated applicants for admission.
Client companies receive value-added services based on a model of incubation that increases their likelihood of success.
